Volunteer group Cats of McKinley is appealing for more witnesses to come forward as it builds an animal cruelty case against the owner of the huskies who mauled a community cat named Ghost.
The group on Wednesday, April 29, urged those who witnessed the April 16 incident to message them as they work to hold the dog owner accountable and seek justice for the beloved feline.
“We are humbly asking for your support in helping us build a stronger case against animal cruelty involving the husky’s owner in connection with Ghost’s passing. At this time, we urgently need more witnesses to come forward,” it said in a post.
“Your testimony can make a crucial difference in helping us seek the justice that Ghost deserves. Please be assured that all information shared will be treated with the utmost confidentiality. Thank you for standing with us,” the group added.
It also included a Filipino version of its announcement.
“Your testimony matters. Come forward and help us get justice for Ghost,” the group said.
The group previously said it was taking steps to ensure accountability after learning that Ghost, one of their “kindest” community cats, was mauled by pet dogs being walked by a man on April 16 at midnight along Le Grand Avenue in McKinley, Taguig City.
Witnesses earlier said the owner did nothing and walked away after the incident.
Ghost was rushed to a veterinary clinic, but later died due to complications following the attack.
A rescue group said the incident may be punishable under the Animal Welfare Act, which penalizes acts of cruelty against animals, especially those resulting in death.
