The volunteer group that cared for the McKinley community cat Ghost assured the public that it is taking steps to file a case for accountability following the well-loved feline’s death.

Cats of McKinley on Monday, April 20, acknowledged the messages it has received from concerned Filipinos after raising awareness that Ghost was attacked by pet dogs being walked in the area.

The group assured the public that it is working toward accountability, adding that posting every action and minor development in the case would not help.

“This would be the last time na sasabihin po namin na hindi po magiging madali at ganun kabilis ang usad ng case. It will take time,” the volunteer group said in a statement.

“Hindi din po pwede na lahat ng galaw at small progress sa case e, ipo-post namin online dahil hindi po ito makakatulong sa kaso. Magpo-post po kami ng update ulit kapag may malaki ng progress. May mga kinukumpleto pa po kaming requirements na kakailanganin sa kaso,” it added.

The group also asked for understanding, saying that aside from pursuing the case, its members are also caring for other community cats while managing their own personal responsibilities.

“Sa ngayon, pasenya at pang unawa po ang hinihingi namin dahil hindi din po ito madali para sa amin dahil bukod sa kaso, may mga sarili kaming buhay at may iba pa po kaming community cats na inaasikaso, pero gagawin po namin lahat para mabigyan ng hustiya si Ghost,” it said.

The group also appealed for the public to refrain from flooding the Cats of BGC, another volunteer group, with messages, saying that Ghost is under the Cats of McKinley community.

“Maraming salamat po sa pagmamahal niyo kay Ghost, we truly appreciate it. #JusticeForGhost,” the group said.

Last weekend, the group assured the public that it was “carefully documenting all information” being shared with them regarding the owner of the huskies involved in the attack.

It said those with information may send a message directly instead of posting it online, adding that the group does not encourage doxxing.

The group also encouraged the public to follow its Instagram Broadcast Channel, where it will post important updates on Ghost’s case and other community cats in need.

Ghost, described by Cats of McKinley as one of their “kindest” community cats, was mauled by huskies being walked by a male individual around midnight on April 16 along Le Grand Avenue in McKinley in Taguig City.

Witnesses said that the owner did nothing and walked away after the incident.

Ghost was rushed to the veterinary, but later died due to complications.

The community cat’s death has sparked outrage among Filipinos, with some posting tributes in her memory.

A rescue group said the incident may be punishable under the Animal Welfare Act, which penalizes acts of cruelty against animals, especially if they result in death.
