An unusual scene at a drive-thru caught the attention of many social media users as horses, rather than cars, pulled up to the counter.
Facebook user Carren Emirose shared a video showing several horseback riders visiting McDonald’s drive-thru in Valencia City, Bukidnon.
She said that the incident took place on March 5.
In the video, a voice, presumably Carren’s, can be heard saying,”Drive-thru in Bukidnon! Amazing!”
“Look! Horsies! So funny! There’s a lot of horses in drive-thru!” she added.
“It’s a drive-thru and there are lots of horses!” she continued.
The clip has since gone viral, earning 734,000 views, 3,400 shares, and 370 comments, with some viewers drawing connections to the current fuel crisis in the country.
“Kapag umabot na ng P200 per litro ng gas, eh, baka balik kabayo, kalabaw at bike na muli tayo,” a Facebook user wrote with laughing emojis.
“Na-a-amaze ‘yung mga nasa sasakyan, not knowing na mangangabayo din sila soon,” another quipped.
“Need na ‘yan… sa taas ng Gasolina. Balik muna sa kalesa,” a different Pinoy wrote.
“Parang maging ganito talaga [tayo] soon ‘pag tumaas ‘yung gasoline, imagine, ‘pag mag P250 per liter, maging it’s really more fun talaga in drive thru,” another commented.
Bukidnon is known for its ranch culture, particularly the town of Impasug-ong, described as the “home of the country’s finest cowboys.”
Horses were once the common mode of transport before the arrival of automobiles during the American era in the Philippines
The country has since shifted to engine-powered vehicles, but motorists are now facing significant price hikes in petroleum products due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East involving the United States, Israel and Iran.
This week saw the prices of diesel, gasoline and kerosene spiked by as much as P24, P38 and P13 per liter, respectively, a far cry from the usual P1 to P2 increase.
Reports indicate that another round of sharp price increases may come next week as the conflict in the Middle East continues.
