A tech store did not push through with its anticipated opening sale, which was set to offer iPhones and other smartphones for only P49 following reported concerns from authorities.
Fortynine Gadgets, a store selling gadgets in Bukidnon, did not proceed with offering smartphones, usually priced in the thousands, at a heavily discounted rate as part of the opening sale of its newest branch in Quezon.
“Atung Quezon Branch is now officially OPEN and operating regularly,” it wrote in a Facebook post on Wednesday, April 15.
“Please be advised that the planned opening sale will no longer proceed, in compliance with the advised guidelines of the concerned authorities,” the tech store added.
“This is NOT a down payment — you only pay P49!” it added.
The tech store said the promo would be on a “first-come, first-served” basis, with one unit per person only.
It added that minors, seniors, pregnant women and individuals with illnesses would not be allowed to participate.
Fortynine Gadgets also said that other accessories would be available for only P49 that day, including headphones, power banks, speakers and keypad phones, among others.
A Reddit user claimed that the promo was discontinued due to poor crowd control.
“This is serious operational negligence kasi ang alam naman natin nga, dagsaan talaga diyan for the sake of iPhone ta’s wala man lang systematic approach on crowd control,” the Redditor said on April 10.
