The internet never forgets.

Some Filipinos recalled an eventful April 15 ten years ago referencing a hardware supplies store and the power of Facebook.

An online user on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, April 15, remembered that a decade ago, Ace Hardware released a statement disowning a viral event that was supposedly set to take place in one of its branches.

“Happy Suntukan sa Ace Hardware day,” the X user said, sharing the old statement from the store.

“We appreciate the excitement created by the April 15 ‘Suntukan sa Ace Hardware’ event that went viral on Facebook,” the hardware store said on March 31, 2016, several days before the supposed event.

“However, we do not encourage this type of digital publicity. No such event was organized by Ace Hardware in SM City Lucena or any of our branches. Thank you,” it added.

The online user recalled the phenomenon today, ten years after it was supposed to happen.

The post has garnered 3,800 likes and 1,000 reposts from other online users.

“ANTAWA KO TALAGA NITO,” a Pinoy wrote.

“HAHSJDKSKSHA those were the days…” another commented.

“Tinalo lahat ng meet up,” another wrote with a laughing emoji.

At a time when Filipino Facebook users were heavily using the “Events” feature on the social networking platform, a user created an event titled “Suntukan sa Ace Hardware,” scheduled for April 15, 2016.

The event, created in March 2016, said that it would take place in the afternoon at the Ace Hardware branch in SM City Lucena, Quezon province.

Reports said the event was created by the Facebook page “Mr. Balagbag: Tuberong Kulay Green” in March 2016, while another news outlet said it was created by the page “NSFW.”

At the time, thousands of Facebook users indicated that they were “going” to the event, while others marked themselves as “interested.”

Ace Hardware later released a statement denying that such an event would take place.

However, it set up a mock boxing ring on April 16, 2016, outside the indicated branch, where Filipinos could take photos and pretend to be in a fistfight.

It also held a three-day sale, taking advantage of the publicity.
