MANILA, Philippines — A video of a young man attacking passengers inside a jeepney in Muntinlupa has raised safety concerns among commuters after it circulated on Reddit and other social media platforms.
The video, posted on Reddit on June 25, showed a young man attacking a senior passenger and other commuters inside a jeepney. He appeared to stop only after another passenger pointed a wooden stick at him.
Some female passengers could be heard crying and appeared visibly shaken during the incident.
“Trigger warning: Violence. Nangyari daw sa South Station, Muntinlupa. Tatlong lalaki raw ang sumakay sa jeep at pinagsusuntok ang mga pasahero. Dalawang matanda ang nag-try na i-shield ang ibang pasahero, pero isa sa kanila ‘yung grabe injuries,” the Redditor said.
“Katakot. What would you even do in this situation? If you happened to have a weapon in your bag, would you legally be allowed to use it in self-defense?” the Reddit user added.

“70 years old na daw ‘yung driver tapos may katabi din na mga rugby boys, kaya hindi makagalaw,” someone commented.
“There are more of these lately. Riding yesterday to Recto, it felt like the same scene. They were talking to each other, newly released again. Admitting that they’re both solvent boys. There are more riding the jeep and they’ve started to beg some money from the passenger. Somehow, it didn’t end up like this because someone was handing out money,” another user wrote.

Police response
Police said the incident occurred in the Filinvest area of Barangay Alabang.
Authorities said the suspect was immediately intercepted because marshals were present in the area.
Passengers injured in the incident were assisted by responding personnel and were reported to be in stable condition and recovering, police said.
Muntinlupa Mayor Ruffy Biazon also said that he has ordered the police to “intensify” the security operations in the area following the incident.
“Nahuli na po ‘yung lalaking sumampa sa PUV at nag-assault sa mga pasahero,” he said in a Facebook post.
Biazon also said that residents can report similar incidents to 137-175 or through the Muntinlupa Helpdesk.
