A veterinarian shared a simple way for pet owners to locate their missing companions using an app.

On Thursday, February 12, veterinarian Roxanne Ignacio raised awareness about PawsMatch, a free app designed to help owners find their pets if they go missing.

She explained that owners can register their pets on the app or its website, and if a pet goes missing, they can immediately post an alert through the platform.

“Lahat ng registered pets sa system, automatic may notification kapag may reported missing or found na pet sa nearby area. Kapag may nakakita at chineck ang app, lalabas agad ang pet details. Automatic magse-send ng info at last location sa owner,” Ignacio said in a Facebook post.

“Ibig sabihin — mas mabilis ang alert system. Mas maraming makakaalam. Mas mataas ang chance na mahanap agad ang alaga mo,” the veterinarian added.

Ignacio also emphasized that responsible pet ownership goes beyond vaccination and deworming, highlighting the importance of giving pets identification and digital registration for added protection.

Meanwhile, the app itself describes itself as a real-time pet locator designed to help find missing pets and notify nearby users.

Owners simply register their pets and post an alert if they go missing. The app then sends notifications to nearby users, informing them if the missing animal has been spotted.

“Responsible pet ownership goes beyond food and vaccines, identification and digital registration save lives. Let’s give our pets every chance to come home safely,” PawsMatch said.

Other means of pet tracking include placing AirTags or a bluetooth tracker on their pet’s collar. This is usually connected to a mobile phone application that lets the owner track the item’s location using the tag.
