A cat owner lost their pet after a vehicle failed to brake upon spotting the feline on a residential street.
Automotive publication VISOR shared the incident on Monday, November 10, featuring a video sent by Donna Palisoc, who recounted how her white cat was interacting with another cat when the vehicle passed by.
The video, recorded on Friday, November 7, shows a four-wheeled vehicle traveling on a residential road at an undisclosed location.
Despite seeing two cats on the road, the vehicle continued moving. After it passed, only one cat emerged from underneath.
The white cat, owned by Palisoc, was later observed experiencing severe seizures. According to a local resident, the cat had been dragged under the vehicle.
“Hindi niyo pa hinintuan eh!” one of them exclaimed.
“Kawawa ‘yung pusa,” the individual added.
“‘Di man lang hinintuan eh,” another could be heard saying in the background.
Palisoc said the other cat, which escaped first, also died the following day. She added that the incident could have been prevented if the driver had stopped to allow the cats to safely move off the road.
The LTO is the government agency that issues driver’s licenses, which are granted as a privilege, not a right.
“Gusto ko pong mabigyan ng lesson ‘yung driver na nakasagasa. Wala siyang puso,” Palisoc said.
“If pwede rin ma-suspend ang license niya. And pay for the damages. P.S: Namatay na rin the following day ‘yung gray cat,” she added.
Palisoc said that the area had road humps, raised sections meant to slow traffic and encourage safer driving, especially in residential neighborhoods.
“‘Di nila alam na may [two] humps before sa area ng pusa and after, nung masagasaan ang pusa,” she was quoted as saying by VISOR.
The video sparked anger among cat lovers, who said the tragedy could have been avoided if the driver had stopped upon seeing the cats.
“Hala, bakit hindi man lang huminto?” a Facebook user said.
“G*g*ng driver!!! Impossible ‘di niya nakita ang mga pusa!! Kung kami nga, hihinto talaga kami hanggang sa makita namin na nakatawid na ang pusa or aso!” another commented.
Some suggested that pet owners also have a responsibility to keep their animals from roaming the streets
“Dapat maging responsable din ang mga may pet, maaari ding mag-cause ito ng disgrasya kasi,” a Facebook user said.
“Your pet, your responsibility! Ba’t ‘di niyo dinampot agad mga alaga niyo?!” another user commented.
Animal welfare organizations often advise drivers to “brake for animals,” a reminder to slow down or honk when spotting animals on the road to prevent accidents.
The initiative encourages drivers to either stop and let the animal cross safely or use their horn to guide it away from traffic.
This practice helps reduce roadkill and fosters a culture of compassion and responsibility among drivers.
