A dog owner was condemned for allowing her pet to drink from a glass of water while in a commercial establishment at an undisclosed location.

Reddit users raised awareness about the video posted by TikTok user Kara Santy (@karasanty), who celebrated her pet dog’s fifth birthday by taking him out and letting him drink from a glass.

The dog was seen drinking from a cold glass of water while sitting outside at a table across a Japanese restaurant.

@karasanty Awwww biscuit!!! How time flies 🤩🥰 you just turned 5 years old!! You are such a blessing to us, you give us so much joy and love ♥️ we love you sooo much 🐶 #cute #poodle #doglover ♬ 魔法小森林 (森の小さなレストラン 中文版) – 奶屁

The TikTok user has since turned off the comments section of her post, but it had already drawn the attention of two communities on Reddit.

“Pet owners, please naman, stop doing this!!! You are ruining things for responsible pet owners!!!” a Redditor wrote in “r/philippines” community on Thursday, March 5.

“My God!! Ang baboy!! Mura lang ang collapsible bowl sa Shopee!! I have a dog too. Yes, dinadala din namin sa mall. No, never siya tumuntong sa mesa. Yes, may sarili siyang collapsible bowl NA NILALAGAY KO SA LAPAG kapag iinom siya. Jusko!” the Reddit user added.

“Iniinuman ng mga bata ‘yang baso na ‘yan. Ang aso ko, kung saan saan nag-s-sniff, kaya alam ko na madumi snout niya kapag nasa labas, and I am sure ganyan din aso niyo,” the Redditor continued.

The post has garnered 1,300 upvotes and one award from users on Reddit.

“Why do some pet owners act like a restaurant’s shared items are their dog’s personal bowl?” another Reddit user wrote.

“I feel so bad for the unsuspecting guest who’s going to be served with that same glass later. I’m all for bringing pets along, but shouldn’t you bring your own portable bowl or at least ask for a disposable container?” the Reddit user commented.

“It’s wild how inconsiderate and selfish some pet owners are. Like, yes, maybe in their home, they have their pets eat from their own utensils and dish. But, there are immuno-compromised people who may get sepsis from something like this and who may not survive that sepsis,” another Redditor wrote.

“Irresponsible ‘yung owner, kawawa naman ‘yung taong matatapat na iinom sa baso na walang kamalay-malay na may aso pa lang uminom,” a different user commented.

A pet supply store said pet owners are responsible for bringing the items their dogs need whenever they dine at a restaurant.

“Also remember that you should never feed your dog off of the restaurant’s dishes,” Petmate wrote on its website.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) also suggested that pet owners bring their own water bowls for their four-legged companions.

The Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) likewise previously reminded pet owners to “uphold a shared sense of responsibility in public spaces” amid the discussion and to safeguard such spaces “by respecting boundaries and protecting the health and well-being of both people and animals.”

The organization added that advocating for animal welfare does not mean disregarding norms that help humans and animals “coexist peacefully and respectfully.”

“Let’s continue to work together to foster safer environments for each other and move forward with empathy, understanding, and a shared commitment to the communities we all share,” PAWS previously said.
