A video of two people struggling to name the months of the year has drawn concern online.
A Reddit user on Thursday, May 7, shared a TikTok video in which an interviewer asked the two individuals basic questions about the months.
The first question asked one of them to recite the months in order, from January to December.
The individual was able to correctly recite the months from January to April but struggled to recall the next month.
“April… October… ay, October,” the individual responded hesitantly.
“Friday,” the beanie-wearing individual responded.

“Grabeng educational crisis,” the Redditor wrote in response to the video.
“Anong buwan ang nagsisimula sa F? Edi Fpril!” the Reddit user quipped.
“Pero seriously, general knowledge na lang ‘to. Matatawag pa rin bang brain fog or mental block? Since sa mga nakaraang vids na hindi nakakasagot sa mga game show eh, ‘yan lagi ang dahilan,” the Redditor added.
Some Reddit users also expressed concern over the post.
“Omg.. may staff din ako na need pa isulat ang numerical equivalent months,” a Reddit user wrote.
“Man, 10 years ago, ‘di naman kami ganito kab*bo wtf,” another Redditor said.
“Yung halos mamamatay na kami sa kakaturo sa mga estudyante tapos ‘di naman pala nila nire-retain sa brain cells nila mga itinuturo namin. Napapa-giatay na lang talaga ako eh,” a Reddit user commented.
“Imagine, halos pagpuyatan na namin ang mga IM [Instructional Materials] na ginagawa namin para lang mas mapadali ang understanding nila sa lessons, tapos ganiyan lang sila? Anong ginagawa niyo, children?” the Reddit user added.
Last month, Filipinos were also alarmed by a perceived language gap among some Filipino TikTok users who appeared unaware that “onion” is the English term for “sibuyas.”

The Philippines has been facing challenges in its education system, with reports noting “worrying declines in proficiency” across Grade 3, 6, 10, and 12 students.
“Many SHS [Senior High School] graduates still require remediation in literacy, numeracy, and scientific reasoning when they enter higher education,” the Second Congressional Commission on Education (EDCOM 2) said in an assessment conducted from 2023 to 2025.
The report also noted the need to further strengthen students’ ability to read and comprehend information.
