A Catholic social media page posed a “pamasko” challenge for godchildren who want to receive cash from their godparents this Christmas.
Saints of Today on Wednesday, December 24, posted a graphic featuring bills worth P50, P100, P500 and P1,000, with each amount corresponding to a specific activity that must be completed to earn the cash.
“PAMASKO CHALLENGE FOR OUR INAANAKS,” the page said.
“Ang pangunahing responsibilidad ng mga ninong at ninang ay turuan at gabayan ang ating mga inaanak sa landas ng isang pagiging mabuting Kristiyano. What if, bigyan natin sila ng ‘challenge’ sa paghingi ng aguinaldo mula sa atin?” it added.
For a P50 bill, the godchild must recite the Ten Commandments and the Seven Sacraments.
For a P100 bill, they must enumerate the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy, which include feeding the hungry, giving drink to the thirsty, visiting the sick, and giving alms to the poor.
For a P500 bill, they must recite the Nicene Creed.
Meanwhile, for a P1,000 bill, the godchild must recite the prayers “Our Father,” “Hail Mary” and “Glory Be” in Latin.
The post has garnered 1,500 likes and reactions and nearly 1,000 shares.
It has long been a tradition among Filipino godchildren to ask for cash, or “aguinaldo,” from their godparents during the Christmas season.
While cash is the most common gift, some godchildren also receive material presents.
For elders, giving cash is a way to share their blessings and show appreciation to the younger generation.
