Students, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities (PWDs) who commute by train will temporarily be unable to obtain a Beep Concessionary Card during the holiday season.

Beep card management announced on Sunday, December 21, that there will be a “brief pause” in the distribution of the special white discount cards from Dec.22, 2025 to Jan. 4, 2026 due to “essential system maintenance.”

The temporary suspension will affect all LRT-1, LRT-2 and MRT-3 stations, the management added.

Distribution of the concessionary Beep cards is set to resume on Monday, Jan. 5, 2026.

“Operations will resume after the holiday period. We appreciate everyone’s understanding and patience as we work to ensure improved service moving forward,” the beep card management said in a statement.

The Beep Concessionary Card is a discounted stored-value card for students, senior citizens and PWDs, allowing them to avail of a 50 percent fare discount when commuting on trains and buses.

The discount is automatically applied when commuters use the white Beep card.

The concessionary card is a government initiative aimed at easing the financial burden on students, seniors, and PWDs.

The 50% discount will apply to bus and railway fares until 2028, the same year President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s term ends.

The program is part of the government’s efforts to simplify access to public transportation for priority sectors and improve commuting efficiency.
