“Millennials versus Generation Z (Gen Z)” marketing posts are gaining traction on social media.
Several brands and organizations have joined the “Millennials versus Gen Z” social media trend, which compares how the two generations would market products and services.
Millennials are generally defined as those born between 1981 and 1996, while Gen Z refers to those born between 1997 and 2012.
A polished and descriptive tone commonly associated with traditional advertising is often attributed to millennials, while a more casual and informal style, frequently using internet slang and emojis, is associated with Gen Z, also known as Zoomers.
Some Facebook users have compiled posts from major brands participating in the trend.
These included KitKat, whose “millennial” version featured a wordier style and familiar advertising language.
“KitKat offers perfectly balanced layers of delicious milk chocolate and crispy wafer to put a smile on your break,” read the “millennial” version of the post.
Meanwhile, the “Gen Z” version used a shorter and more casual tone: “It’s giving… break,” accompanied by emojis.
A cat café in Taguig also shared its own take on the trend. Its “millennial” version used more descriptive language, while the “Gen Z” version incorporated internet slang.
“Warm drinks, fluffy friends, and good vibes. No stress, just purrs and smiles. Come for the coffee, stay for the cats. Every single time,” part of the “millennial” ad read.
Meanwhile, the “Gen Z” version used more emojis and chat-style language: “This cat cafe hits different. Coffee? Slay. Cats. Slay harder. Ugh, therapeutic af,” it said.
A telecommunications service provider also joined the trend through a post featuring Filipina tennis sensation Alex Eala.
Some schools also joined the trend, taking advantage of the enrollment season.
Here are more examples from other brands and organizations that joined the trend:
The trend goes beyond local brands, also hitting global or non-Filipino ones.
Nowadays, brands and other entities commonly use social media for marketing, often joining internet trends to stay relevant in the evolving digital landscape.
