Calls for the Department of Tourism (DOT) to appoint P-pop girl group BINI as tourism ambassadors have mounted online following their successful Coachella debut.

The “Nation’s Girl Group” performed for the second time in the Mojave Tent of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival 2026 on April 18 (Philippine time), where they delivered a refreshed 45-minute set for festivalgoers.

Their return to the Coachella stage featured an immersive setup with flickering lights and a bolder backdrop that amplified their presence.

The octet performed almost the same setlist, but with renewed intensity, performing songs such as “Zero Pressure” and “Out Of My Head.”

Each BINI member also introduced themselves in different Filipino dialects, mostly reflecting their respective hometowns.

The group once again capped off their Coachella set with the crowd favorite, “Pantropiko.”

The DOT, in recognition of their historic appearance at the festival, dedicated a post to the Filipino girl group, as well as to KATSEYE’s Sophia Laforteza, a Filipino member who also performed at Coachella.

“The Department of Tourism (DOT) proudly congratulates P-Pop sensation BINI and Sophia Laforteza of Katseye for raising the Philippine flag on one of the world’s most iconic stages—Coachella,” the agency wrote on social media on Sunday, April 19.

“As the first Filipino act to perform at Coachella, BINI delivered an electrifying 45-minute, 10-song set that drew global attention, with fans gathering early and proudly waving Philippine flags. Together with Sophia’s appearance, this moment highlights the rising global influence of Filipino music and talent,” it added.

“Over the past weeks, you have brought pride and excitement to Filipinos around the world. Your performances showcased not just world-class talent, but the vibrant spirit, creativity, and identity of the Filipino people—bringing joy to global audiences in a way that is uniquely ours,” the DOT said.

It added that it is “looking forward” to BINI and Sophia’s “continued success” as they “inspire future generations and elevate the Philippines on the world stage.”

Filipinos, meanwhile, wasted no time renewing calls for BINI to serve as tourism ambassadors for the country, urging the agency to leverage their growing popularity, especially as they continue to gain global attention.

“Concert tourism is a soft power. I hope your good office will do something to help streamline everything related to it, from infrastructure, transportation, safety, and everything in between, so that we can welcome more tourists and let them experience Filipino talent live and in flesh together with the Filipino crowd,” a Facebook user wrote.

“There’s so much that the world is missing out on and the government should do something to leverage on that talent from Filipino artists,” the Facebook user added.

“New tagline: Uy, Pilipins! New ambassadors: Bini Pwede? Pwede!” another commented.

“Dapat gawin bagong slogan ng DOT, ‘Uy Philippines!’ courtesy of Maloi. Hehehe,” a different Pinoy commenterd, referring to BINI member Maloi, who went viral for her enthusiastic “Uy, Pilipins” greeting in Coachella.

“DoT, baka naman po pwede ng gawing new slogan ‘yung ‘Uy, Pilipins!’ tapos tourism ambassadress ang Bini,” another wrote.

“‘Yung Coachella version nila na Pantropiko, gamitin niyo sa mga tourism vid!!! Ang galing ng pagkaka-edit eh,”another Pinoy commented.

“Use, ‘Uy Pilipins’ tagline… This is the right time! Let BINI promote, Department of Tourism – Philippines,” a different Facebook user wrote, tagging the Facebook page of DOT.

“PLEASE ADAPT THE PROPOSAL for our Tourism featuring BINI with ‘Uy, Philippines!’ campaign,” another Pinoy commented.

Last week, calls for the DOT to adopt the girl group’s hit, “Pantropiko,” as a tourism anthem went viral following BINI’s first performance at Coachella.

The upbeat, summer-friendly track has inspired numerous dance covers, including those by construction workers, and was even grooved to by a sign language interpreter during a news report.

“Pantropiko” was released in 2023 and helped catapult the group to mainstream success after their formation in 2019, four years after they were initially assembled as talents.

In 2025, the track was used by the Singapore Prime Minister as background music for a video of his two-day visit to the Philippines. — with reports from Philstar.com/Kristofer Purnell
