The Philippine flag carrier has advised passengers to check their flight status before heading to the airport due to an incoming tropical cyclone expected to intensify into a super typhoon.
On Friday, November 7, Philippine Airlines issued a weather advisory regarding Severe Tropical Storm Fung-Wong (pre-“Uwan”), which is forecast to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) before the weekend.
The airline urged passengers with upcoming flights to verify their flight status online before traveling, noting that the storm is expected to bring heavy rains and strong winds to parts of Luzon and Eastern Visayas in the coming days.
Passengers were also informed that they can receive real-time updates online without needing to call the airline’s hotline.
“This way, we can keep our phone lines open for passengers needing urgent help. Thank you for your cooperation,” it said.
Passengers can check their flight status here. They can also receive instant updates via chat here.
“We are closely monitoring the situation and will continue to prioritize your safety and convenience,” the airline said.
Philippine Airlines is the country’s largest international airline, serving 25 domestic destinations and 28 international points across Asia, Australia/Oceania, the Middle East, Europe and North America.
Meanwhile, according to the 11 a.m. weather advisory from state weather bureau PAGASA, “Fung-Wong” is expected to intensify into a super typhoon by Sunday, November 9 as it nears the Philippine landmass.
The severe tropical storm will be locally named “Uwan” once it enters PAR. It is forecast to cross Northern and Central Luzon by Sunday evening to Monday morning.
Although Metro Manila will not be directly hit, the capital region may still experience strong winds and heavy rains.
