State weather bureau PAGASA has launched a mobile application that provides Filipinos with location-based, real-time weather updates.

Called “PANaHON” (short for PAGASA National Hydro-Met Observing Network), the app provides information on temperature, heat index, humidity, rainfall wind speed and direction, as well as weather forecasts and hazard alerts.

It offers hourly forecast for the day and a five-day weather outlook, complete with weather summaries such as  “Partly cloudy skies to at times cloudy with rainshowers and thunderstorms”.

The app also features weather information for major areas such as Metro Manila, Metro Cebu, and Metro Davao, and cities like Baguio, Tagaytay, Puerto Princesa, Iloilo and Zamboanga, among others.

Users can also access interactive maps, radar and satellite imagery and the National Warning Map.

The app also provides notifications for thunderstorm and heavy rainfall warnings, flood advisories and tropical cyclone bulletins issued by PAGASA.

Some users who have already downloaded the app shared their feedback, describing it as “convenient, simple, and easy to navigate.”

“Simple, easy to navigate, at may weather information na madaling maintindihan. Sana mas marami pang mag-download nito para mas informed at prepared tayo, lalo na ngayong tag-ulan,” a Facebook user said.

The app is available on both the App Store for iOS users and the Play Store for Android users.
