Will there be another super typhoon that will affect the country?

A Facebook page providing updates and information on emergency situations warned about posts claiming that a new super typhoon will possibly enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

The “Philippine Emergency Alerts” on Tuesday, November 11 flagged posts by the Facebook pages “Walang Pasok Advisory” and “Metro Headlines” which alleged that a “strong weather disturbance” will impact the country following “Uwan.”

“Uwan” (international name: Fung-Wong) was a super typhoon that claimed at least 27 lives and displaced thousands of families in parts of Luzon and Visayas.

Meanwhile, “Metro Headlines” alleged that a “strong weather disturbance” was spotted in satellite imagery and is “continuing to intensify as it moves closer to the PAR.”

“Verbana” is the next on the state weather bureau PAGASA‘s list of tropical cyclone names for 2025.

The “Walang Pasok Advisory” page also claimed the following: “BAGONG SUPER TYPHOON PAPARATING!

The “Philippine Emergency Alerts” flagged the posts as “fake news” and said that while the state weather bureau has a forecast about a potential weather disturbance, it is still far off and may still change.

Facts

According to PAGASA’s Tropical Cyclone Threat Potential forecast, there is a low chance that a tropical cyclone will form from November 12 to 18.

However, a tropical cyclone-like vortex is expected to emerge over the southeastern boundary of the PAR and is likely to cross the Northern Mindanao-Visayas-Southern Luzon area. This has a low likelihood of developing into a tropical cyclone.

There is also another tropical cyclone-like vortex that is likely to develop over the eastern boundary of the PAR from November 19 to 25, also with a low likelihood of it developing into a tropical cyclone.

“However, any changes in the forecast pattern will be closely monitored, and updates will be issued as needed,” PAGASA said before.

PAGASA previously advised the public to regularly follow its official updates and advisories and to avoid relying on unverified information from unofficial sources, particularly for disaster preparedness.

The agency said official weather reports and updates can be accessed on its official website, verified Facebook, X (formerly Twitter) accounts and YouTube channel.
