Train commuters were warned about unauthorized online resellers of the beep card used for railway travel in Metro Manila.

The beep card is a stored value card used in the LRT-1, LRT-2 and MRT-3 for exact fare payment.

It is reloadable and lets commuters travel without queuing for single-journey tickets or waiting for change.

The beep card is usually sold at train stations, its official Lazada store, and select outlets at the One Ayala Terminal, Qube Locker, BGC Bus Terminal, Nuvali Transport Terminal and the Pillar Village Terminal.

The management warned that purchasing from illegal sources, including unauthorized online resellers, could result in getting “defective, counterfeit, or overpriced” cards.

Meanwhile, AF Payments Inc. (AFPI), the beep card issuer, also vowed full support for the Department of Transportation‘s (DOTr) efforts to stabilize the supply of cards and speed up the issuance of discount cards for seniors, persons with disabilities (PWDs) and students across all rail lines.

AFPI said it has fast-tracked the delivery of 300,000 additional beep cards for its train operator partners.

The DOTr earlier announced that concessionary beep cards for students, offering a 50% fare discount, will be available starting September 2025, in time for the new school year.

Discounted cards for senior citizens and PWDs will also remain available to ensure inclusive access to cheaper train fares.
