Optum Care senior medical director David Nill said that there are no fixed routines for self-care, noting that it varies from person to person.
The company also provided a list of activities that individuals can try to support their well-being.
Find time to relax — Try doing activities that help you unwind, such as listening to music or reading.
Move your body —Activities like dancing, walking, or riding a bike can boost your mood. The company also suggests starting with exercises that are manageable for you and gradually increasing the effort.
Get enough sleep — You also need to rest, as your body repairs and recharges itself during sleep. To improve your sleep, try going to bed and waking up at the same time every day, and avoid using gadgets before bedtime.
Eat and drink well — Eating balanced meals and staying hydrated are important for taking care of yourself.
Interact with others — Asking for help is another way to practice self-care, according to the healthcare company. Spending time with others, especially loved ones, can also lift your mood.
Be thankful — Practicing gratitude, even for small things, can gradually change your mindset and make it easier to appreciate life.
Try breathing exercises — Breathing exercises can help you feel in control and calm your body and mind. You can try the following steps and repeat the process a few times:
- Breathe in for three seconds
- Hold your breath for three seconds
- Breathe out for three seconds
- Pause for another three seconds
The healthcare company noted that individuals who practice self-care prioritize their health.
While starting a self-care routine may be challenging, the company added that individuals can begin with small habits and gradually build on them.
