P-pop girl group BINI expressed their gratitude to the Department of Tourism (DOT) after being tapped as tourist ambassadors for the country.

The octet, dubbed as the “Nation’s Girl Group,” on Friday, July 3 finally made their moniker official when the government agency named them among the county’s official ambassadors for tourism.

DOT Secretary Dita Angera-Mathay said the partnership hopes to showcase the country’s diverse destinations, culture and hospitality while leveraging BINI’s growing popularity in the Philippines and abroad.

“Each girl actually represents a province or a town and they’re very knowledgeable about the charming feature of their towns,” she said.

The secretary said that they wanted the partnership to be long-term.

“We want a long-term relationship kasi ‘yun ang may impact. We’re with them for the long haul. That’s what we have in mind and hopefully, the group has the same in mind,” the DOT chief said.

Dita expressed confidence that the girl group’s influence, particularly among younger audiences, would help encourage more people to explore the country’s attractions.

The group, in response, said that the Philippines will “always” be its “fave destination.”

“Uy, Philippines! You’ll always be our fave destination,” they said in a social media post with emojis.

“Thank you, Department of Tourism – Philippines, for the trust and warm welcome,” the group added, tagging the account of the government agency.

“We’re honored to be the Philippines’ Tourism Ambassadors and can’t wait to celebrate our country’s tropical beauty, culture, and people with all of you!” BINI said.

The group also quipped of going to an “out of town trip” in relation to their new role.

“LF [Looking For] a photographer sa next out of town?” BINI said in another post, featuring BINI Colet taking a picture of her fellow girl group members.

BINI has long been the subject of calls from fans and supporters to serve as the country’s tourism ambassadors, with many believing their massive influence could translate into increased tourism.

This was especially highlighted when the girl group made history as the first Filipino act to have performed at the popular Coachella, a music and arts festival in California.

BINI is known for their upbeat tracks like “Pantropiko,” “Salamin Salamin,” “Bikini,” “Blush,” and “Cherry on Top.”
