Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) General Manager Nicolas Torre III raised awareness of a hotline the public can call whenever they encounter problems on the road.

Torre said the public can dial 136 and expect MMDA personnel to arrive at the site within five minutes.

He said concerns such as road accidents or crashes, traffic, illegal parking, garbage, and other issues that fall under MMDA’s jurisdiction can be reported.

Torre shared that the hotline operates 24/7 and is manned by trained MMDA radio operators.

He said the operators have a Public Address System to inform the Metrobase of calls so that CCTV operators and radio dispatchers can also hear them and immediately act on the situation.

“Mabilis, maaasahan, at handang tumulong sa oras ng pangangailangan sa daan. Limang minuto, kami ay nariyan!” the MMDA said in a Facebook post.

During his stint as Philippine National Police chief, Torre also introduced the police’s “five-minute” target response time for emergency calls, particularly in urban areas.

The MMDA is the agency responsible for delivering services that “have metro-wide impact and transcend legal political boundaries or entail huge expenditures” that would make it impractical to leave them to individual local government units.

Such services include the management of transport and traffic, flood control and sewerage systems, urban renewal, land use planning and shelter provision, health, sanitation, solid waste disposal and public safety.
