Actress Jasmine Curtis-Smith was among those who questioned the authorities’ perceived “slow” response to vehicles used by some members of Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) that blocked lanes along EDSA during their rally.

The showbiz personality reacted to a video of a Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) personnel towing an illegally parked vehicle along EDSA Corinthians on Wednesday, July 1.

“They should’ve towed all the buses illegally parked kahapon, anong hinintay???” Jasmine wrote in a repost on X (formerly Twitter).

The actress was referring to the multiple buses that blocked some lanes along EDSA, a major thoroughfare in Metro Manila, ever since the INC began its lightning rally on Tuesday, June 30.

She also reshared a post by veteran journalist Lynda Jumilla-Abalos, who expressed similar sentiments.

“Tow the buses, dock their vehicle registration with penalties, suspend the drivers’ licenses. Kaya ba gawin ng LTO?” the journalist wrote, referring to the Land Transportation Office.

Another Filipino also reacted to a video of rallyists’ vehicles parked along the EDSA Ortigas flyover on Tuesday, blocking a lane intended for moving traffic.

“Curious ako saan na pala si Gabriel Go (MMDA). ‘Di ba may mga kasamang vloggers siya tuwing may clearing ops [operations] habang nagto-tow at nagti-ticket ng mga simpleng tao. Kala ko ba fair sa pag-apply ng batas. Mahilig pa mag-lecture sa harap ng camera,” the X user said.

Gabriel Go is the chief of the MMDA Special Operations Group-Strike Force, known for towing illegally-parked vehicles and documenting operations on YouTube.

He previously called out a motorist who invoked religion during a road-clearing operation.

Meanwhile, buses carrying members of the INC staging a rally at the People Power Monument blocked lanes on EDSA on Tuesday, causing severe traffic congestion and making some Filipinos late for work, classes and appointments.

Three northbound lanes of EDSA were reported passable as of Wednesday, with buses moved back to White Plains Avenue.

Authorities said the INC’s Tuesday rally did not have a permit. The religious group has since secured a permit for its Wednesday activity.

The INC is staging a rally to support Sen. Rodante Marcoleta, a fellow member, who is set to face plunder charges for undeclared election campaign donations totaling P75 million, dating back to his senatorial run.

State prosecutors also noted that the amount was not declared in his Statement of Liabilities, Liabilities and Net Worth (SALN) as of June 30, 2025.

The INC claims that the move against Marcoleta was connected to the senator’s stint as former Senate Blue Ribbon Committee chair, during which he led probes into the flood control scandal.

The Ombudsman has denied such claims, saying it is part of its genuine efforts to combat corruption in the country.
