Araneta City has launched “CoMEOWnity,” a citywide initiative aimed at protecting and caring for stray cats, expanding its Pet Pals program to promote animal welfare within the urban community.
The initiative is dedicated to the late chef and restaurateur Margarita Forés, whose affection for cats continues to inspire acts of kindness.

At the core of the program is a Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return (TNVR) effort in partnership with CARA Welfare Philippines, alongside Pet Kingdom, City Cats Cuba, and Cats of Araneta City. Stray cats are provided with food, shelter, and medical care at the Araneta City cattery, with ongoing support through donated supplies.
Beyond care and rehabilitation, the program also runs adoption drives to rehome rescued cats. During its first adoption event on April 12 at Ali Mall, all rescued and neutered cats were successfully adopted into new homes.
“CoMEOWnity brings together our valued partners, patrons, cat lovers, and everyone who shares a deep compassion for stray cats,” Marjorie Go, VP for Marketing of Araneta City Inc. said.
“Through this initiative, we hope to create a city where every stray cat feels safe, respected, and cared for,” she added.
“Through programs like CoMEOWnity, we are in the high hopes that it will encourage greater awareness and shared responsibility toward stray cats. Compassion and empathy are at the heart of who we are—and through them, we affirm our responsibility to care for those who cannot care for themselves,” Go continued.
The initiative positions stray cats not as passersby but as part of the community, recognized as “City-zens” of the City of Firsts, and encourages tenants, residents, and partners to take part in everyday acts of care such as feeding, sheltering and supporting adoption efforts.
