Some Filipinos lamented the impending removal of Messenger as a standalone website after the announcement that users will only be able to send messages through Facebook‘s site or Messenger’s mobile app.

Messenger.com announced that it will no longer be available for messaging after April 15, 2026.

It previously discontinued its dedicated desktop app last December 2025.

The platform said users can continue their conversations on facebook.com/messages or through the Messenger mobile app.

For those with a Messenger account but no Facebook account, conversations can still be accessed via the Messenger mobile app.

The change saddened some Filipinos, who had relied on Messenger’s standalone website to view their conversations without navigating Facebook’s main website.

Many users found the standalone website helpful because it was “less distracting” than opening Facebook itself to check messages.

No need to switch account sa web. ‘Di naman kasi pwede dalawahan na FB ‘pag same Chrome lang ang gagamitin,” another Pinoy said.

Messenger.com is the web-based interface for Facebook’s messaging service, launched by Meta to provide a dedicated, distraction-free chat experience separate from the main Facebook website, which is filled with posts and other content.

The standalone Messenger for web browsers was first introduced in 2015.
