Filipinos can upskill for free and at their own pace by enrolling in the University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU), which is offering 28 courses until June.

UPUOU announced on Friday, January 16, that it is opening 28 Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) from January to June, including four newly introduced courses.

The new offerings include Practical Home Behavior Management for Children with Special Needs, Data Annotation for Aspiring BPO Professionals, Climate Information Services and Internalizing Behaviors among Children and Practical Home Support.

UPOU said learners can “learn anywhere, anytime” and earn a 16-hour certificate that can be added to their resumes upon course completion.

Aside from the new courses, other available offerings include Understanding the Child Better, Online Mothers’ Class, What Makes an Entrepreneur, and Business Concepts, Ideation, and the Business Plan, among others.

To enroll, individuals only need to do the following:

  • Go to http://model.upou.edu.ph/
  • Click “LOG IN” to create a new account
  • Fill out the form with their details
  • Check your email account to see your confirmation link (this may take up to three business days)
  • Confirm and log in
  • Browse through our website homepage, and select the course they want to enroll in

UPOU said enrollment for each course typically opens two weeks before the start date and remains available while the course is ongoing.

After creating an account, learners may enroll in their preferred courses through the “Featured Courses” tab and take note of each course’s offering dates.

The university added that “countdown posts” for every MOOC offering will be announced soon, addressing questions on whether course details will be announced a few weeks before each start date or all at once.

Those with inquiries or concerns may contact [email protected].

The UPOU enables Filipinos to upskill without barriers, serving as a pioneer in online teaching and distance learning.

It aims to provide alternative access to quality higher education by offering baccalaureate and post-baccalaureate degree programs, as well as non-formal courses through distance education.

UP’s system also seeks to develop continuing education opportunities that support professional growth and enhance technical skills, particularly for individuals who are unable to leave their jobs or homes for full-time study.
