Olympic gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz is living out her dream as she embarks on a new chapter in her life as an educator.
On Thursday, October 16, the weightlifting wonder shared snaps with members of the College Executive Board of the University of the Philippines’ College of Human Kinetics (CHK).
Hidilyn announced that she will be joining UP CHK as a lecturer, where she will help design a curriculum to promote and spread the sport of weightlifting.
“It’s a new path, a level-up opportunity to become a lecturer at UP CHK!” she said in a Facebook post.
“Designing a curriculum to promote and spread weightlifting has always been a dream. I’m excited and nervous, but ready to give my best. I love weightlifting, and I’ll keep doing my best to grow and share the sport I love,” the athlete added.
Hidilyn also shared her response when asked why she wanted to venture into teaching.
“Because I want to keep learning, and I hope my students will learn from me too,” she told UP CHK’s College Executive Board.
“Can’t wait to meet my future students and co-faculty members. Thank you, UP, for welcoming me and believing in what I can share. Excited to start this new journey,” the weightlifter added.
Hidilyn announced that she will begin teaching students in January 2026.
According to the UP Diliman Department of Sports Science, Hidilyn recently met with the College Executive Board of UP CHK to discuss course setup, logistical arrangements, and initiatives to further promoting weightlifting in collegiate sports.
Hidilyn made history in Philippine sports as the first Filipino and the first Pinay to win an Olympic gold medal, achieving the feat at the 2020 Tokyo Games
