A video of what appeared to be motorcycle race, allegedly in Quezon City, has caught the attention of Filipinos online.

Automotive publication VISOR on Thursday, September 11, posted the footage showing two riders seemingly engaged in drag racing.

Some followers claimed the incident took place along Mindanao Avenue, near Master Garage, an automotive and repair shop in Quezon City.

“Mindanao Ave. near Master Garage QC [Quezon City]. Palagi ‘yan sila tuwing gabi [or] madaling araw, sa Mcdo nakatambay or dun sa gasolinahan,” a Facebook user commented.

“Parang Cleanfuel Novaliches sa Mindanao Ave, near SM Fairview,” another wrote.

“Always po sila andyan, basta sumapit na ang kadiliman, kaya lang na-post, maaalarma na sila, hindi na pupunta ‘yan diyan. ‘Pag wala sila diyan, andun sa may S&R, malapit sa LTO Novaliches,” a different Pinoy said.

While there is still no specific law that explicitly bans drag racing in the country, the Department of Justice said that existing laws and ordinances can be used to penalize the activity.

According to the DOJ, individuals caught participating in drag races may be charged under the Land Transportation and Traffic Code, which prohibits speeding and reckless driving.

The DOJ also cited Batas Pambansa Bilang 33, which penalizes unauthorized “speed contests” involving motor vehicles.

Drag racing is an acceleration contest between two vehicles, often conducted on public roads.
