A concerned Filipino flagged the issue of vehicles illegally parked within an underpass located between commercial establishments in Taguig City.
On Tuesday, September 9, automotive publication VISOR shared dashcam footage sent by Naldy de Leon, which captured the scene of the underpass between Market! Market! and SM Aura.
De Leon, who regularly passes through the area, reported the “illegal parking” of vehicles on the left side of the underpass.
“This has become a common issue. This situation may cause accidents for those unfamiliar with the path, and it also contributes to traffic congestion during rush hours,” the sender was quoted as saying on the page.
“I hope the Taguig LGU [local government unit] can take appropriate action on this matter to ensure road safety and smoother traffic flow. Thank you,” De Leon added.
The footage revealed more than five vehicles illegally parked on the left side of the underpass, including an armored vehicle and a truck.
The post has garnered 157,000 views, 1,400 likes and reactions, and over 220 comments. Many Filipinos expressed their frustration, claiming that such illegal parking has become a common issue in the underpass.
“Nasita na ‘yan ni sir Gabriel Go ng MMDA at paulit-ulit pa rin hanggang ngayon. Taguig LGU should take action too on a ‘regular’ basis. Tanggalin ang mga nagtitinda din kaya humihinto ang mga driver para kumain,” a Facebook user wrote.
“Napasadahan na ni Gabriel Go ‘yan dati e, bumalik na naman, haha, may tindahan kasi diyan,” another commented, referring to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority’s Special Operations Group-Strike Force head.
“Jeep pasimuno [diyan] e. Hanggang dumami na. Mga Grab ‘yung iba [diyan] eh. Dami raw kasi huli sa inner BGC [Bonifacio Global City], traffic pa, hantay sila booking [diyan]. Tapos may yosihan pa [diyan] dun sa ilalim tulay [kaya] parang magandang tambayan ‘yan [sa kanila],” another said.
“Ilang beses na nag-clearing diyan, meron pa din talaga mga ulaga,” another Pinoy commented.
“Kahit rush hour, talagang kahit isang sasakyan, may nakatigil diyan. ‘Di pa marunong mag-zipper after the tunnel mga nasa gitna and left lanes. Nag-uunaha,” a different Facebook user wrote.
Underpasses are not intended for parking, as these areas are usually dark and designed solely for vehicle movement.
Parking in such spaces can create significant road hazards, including obstructing traffic flow and causing bottlenecks, which pose risks to motorists and pedestrians alike.
