Some Filipinos hope the Barretto siblings will remain united following the death of their beloved matriarch, Estella “Inday” Baretto.
Actress Claudine Barretto announced on Friday, January 30, that their mother had passed away after almost a month-long stay in the hospital.
She had earlier shared that her mother was diagnosed with lupus, a chronic autoimmune disease in which the immune system attacks the body’s own organs and tissues.
“To my Brother [and] all my sisters, thank you. Magulo man po kami, but in Grief, we are all United,” Claudine said with a folded hands emoji.
“We all did our part. JJ [Joaquin], Michie, Gia, G, Marjorie [and] all the apos, pati apo sa tuhod. Pantay pantay inalagaan ang mommy,” the actress added, referring to her siblings.
“We choose Peace over everything,” Claudine continued.
She then asked for prayers for their mother’s soul and said they would be “okay” because they are the children of the “strongest, most loving mother anyone could ask for.”
In an Instagram post, Claudine also wrote with a thumbs-up emoji: “Mommy, we’re gonna be okay. I promise!”

Meanwhile, many online users took notice of Claudine’s assurance that she and her siblings, particularly Marjorie and Gretchen, will remain “united” despite their loss.
“Condolence and sana maging baon ng mom niyo ang peace and unity niyo,” a Facebook user wrote.
“Condolence to your family, idol CLAU. Sana nga maging ok na [kayong] lahat magkakapatid and all the apo’s,” another hoped.
“Happy to know despite of everything — choose PEACE and LOVE. That everyone in the family, from children to apos and relative, friends, mas matatahimik ang kanyang kaluluwa! Patnubayan ang boung pamilya hanggang sa huling paghatid ng kanyang labi,” a different Pinoy commented.
The Barretto siblings in showbiz are known to feud from time to time.
In October 2025, Marjorie responded after their mother, Inday, spoke in an interview with Ogie Diaz about her relationships with Claudine, Gretchen and Marjorie, as well as the siblings’ dynamics with one another.
Inday described Marjorie as strong-willed but said she sometimes felt rejected by her. The matriarch added that she feels the need to provide what Marjorie might be missing, noting that her second daughter rarely invites her to events.
She also shared that Gretchen and Marjorie were once very close but gradually drifted apart, with their feud becoming highly public during the funeral of Inday’s husband, Miguel, in 2019.
Meanwhile, Marjorie fired back, asking if she was being used as “damage control to make the youngest child look good and clean.”
Claudine is the youngest of the seven Barretto siblings. Marjorie also revealed that she had been told not to upload photos of them together, as it might upset Gretchen and Claudine. — with reports from Philstar.com/Kristofer Purnell
