Kapuso actress Carla Abellana admitted that she has considered entering politics, but revealed that her “conscience” is holding her back.
The showbiz personality, who has been dubbed the “Patron Saints of Concerned Citizens” for her outspoken social media posts demanding accountability, appeared on “Fast Talk With Boy Abunda” on Thursday, September 25.
During the interview, veteran host Boy Abunda asked Carla what she would do if someone urged her to join politics.
Carla, who frequently calls out issues involving the government and private service providers online, confessed that she’s sometimes “tempted” to pursue a career in public service, but ultimately holds back due to her personal convictions.
“Kasi for the wrong reasons… kasi, sa totoo lang, sa lahat ng kalokohang nangyayari po sa bansa natin, sa politics pa lang, ang daling sabihin, ‘Gusto ko na rin mag-politics because I want to make as much as they’re making. Gusto ko rin ng lavish lifestyle. Gusto ko rin mag-travel. Gusto ko rin ng mga billion-billion.’ For the wrong reasons,” she said.
“As a human being, it’s so tempting po,” the actress added.
Carla said that despite her interest, her conscience wouldn’t be able to endure the dirty or anomalous transactions that sometimes occur in politics.
“But then, I have integrity. May konsensiya po ako. I cannot, I do not see myself in politics. And obviously, ayoko naman po kung sakaling papasok ng politics, for the wrong reasons po,” she said.
The actress also expressed her frustration over the country’s current issues, particularly the alleged irregularities in flood control projects.
“I’m outraged, sa totoo lang po. Galit na galit po ako. Ngayon ko nga lang po, actually, na-e-experience ang ganitong klase ng galit. Kasi ako ay obedient taxpayer. I pay, my goodness, so much, in taxes. Masakit po ‘yun for us,” she said.
“Whether maliit lang po o malaki ang taxes na binabayaran niyo, the fact na nagbabayad po kayo ng taxes, dapat magalit po kayo. Madalas, iniiyakan ko po ‘yan ‘pag time na po nagbabayad ng taxes. So, the fact na nakikita po natin kung saan napupunta, eh, parang ang hirap pong hindi kayo magalit,” Carla added.
The actress also expressed hope that someone would finally be held accountable for the corruption scandal involving flood control projects.
“Dapat po may makulong talaga. Dapat po may managot. Hindi lang po sila haharap sa isang hearing or pag-uusap or investigation. There has to be accountability, and there has to be punishment po talaga,” she said.
Earlier this month, Carla was among those who reacted after photos surfaced showing wads of cash allegedly “for delivery” to politicians involved in the flood control kickback scheme.
“Ayun ‘yung pera ko, o. Nakita ko na,” she previously wrote in an Instagram Story.
