‘Bold statement’: Gardo Versoza earns attention with his T-shirt

Gardo Versoza is the latest celebrity to speak up, posting a shirt critical of the government, albeit through a T-shirt.

A screenshot of the showbiz personality’s Instagram post appeared on the “r/Philippines” Reddit community on Monday, September 15, earning almost 6,000 upvotes and over 80 comments.

“Gardo Versosa’s T-shirt on his IG [Instagram] post,” the Redditor said.

The actor had a serious expression and wore a black t-shirt with the following text:

PROUD TO BE FILIPINO
ASHAMED OF MY GOVERNMENT

Some of the Filipinos’ reactions include:

“Kinda happy that we’re seeing more artists speak out about politics now. Granted, I don’t agree with some of the opinions, but the fact that people are more willing to use their fame now to get messages out is a good development,” a Redditor wrote.

“BOLD statement,” another Pinoy commented.

“Nakakahiya tuloy if nagta-trabaho ka sa gobyerno,” said a different Reddit user.

Gardo’s Instagram post has also earned over 2,000 likes, with some asking where he got the shirt.

He captioned his post with Philippine flag emojis.

In the comments, someone linked the shop that sells the shirt with the thought-provoking message.

Apart from Gardo, other celebrities who have recently spoken out about the country’s socio-political issues are Edu Manzano, Nadine Lustre, Pokwang, Bianca Gonzalez, Carla Abellana, and Anne Curtis, among others.

The most prevalent issue is the reported anomalies involving hundreds of billions of pesos in flood control projects, with government contractors scrutinized for their lavish lifestyles, including those of some of their family members.
