A cake and pastry supplier for Carla Abellana’s wedding to her “first love” has responded after an actor poked fun at the wedding cake’s design.
Cake Studio Philippines, which provided the much-talked-about cake for Carla and her high school sweetheart, physician Reginald Santos, said it views all reactions as “positive criticism” following comments from Janus Del Prado.
The newlywed couple’s reception featured a white slab cake with layers of soft chiffon, mixed berries compote, whipped cream cheese and fresh berries in between.

Janus previously likened the white slab cake of the newlyweds to a coffin, reportedly posting the following on his Instagram: “Cake! Ba’t mo kami iniwan! Huhuhu!”
“Sisiw na lang kulang,” Janus’ caption read, featuring emojis of a grinning-squinting face and a peace sign gesture.
In the Philippines, there is a belief that placing a live chick on top of the coffin of someone who was killed will cause the chick’s pecking sounds to bother the conscience of the killer and compel them to confess.
Meanwhile, Carla saw the actor’s post and responded with a smiling emoji: “Masarap naman at fully edible. Pati guests nag-enjoy. Para sa amin, maganda siya at ‘yun ang importante.”
The actress married Reginald, whom she described as her “first love,” on December 27.
The wedding cake supplier also weighed in, saying that what matters most is that their customers are satisfied with the final product.
“Taking into account the cake of Carla [and] Reg, their all-white slab cake with minimal curls and design speaks of their simple yet elegant way in finding their love for each other,” Cake Studio told Philippine Entertainment Portal (PEP) on Tuesday, January 6.
“If only we can relive that magical moment when everything about their wedding perfectly matches in harmony: from the venue styling, floral arrangements, table set up, the cake, their cocktail spreads, booths, and everything,” it added.
“If only people can look beyond just one photo and see how the couple planned a well-thought celebration to be shared to their loved ones, then all those negative ideas about their wedding will certainly be disregarded,” Cake Studio continued.
It added that it treats all public reactions as “positive criticism.”
“While we appreciated feedback and reactions from other people, we don’t focus on their opinions because what matters to us is our client’s reactions,” the cake supplier said.
“Hence, we are not affected on whether or not the public accepts our designs, for as long as our client couples are happy about it, because they are the ones we wanted to really satisfy,” it further said.
“Generally, people will always have different takes on things. But in the end, what makes a difference is the reaction and satisfaction of our clients whom our cakes are made for,” Cake Studio added.
It also noted that the wedding cake is their eighth slab cake since they began making such designs in September 2025.
A slab cake is a large, rectangular, single-layer cake that can serve many guests and act as a dramatic centerpiece due to its appearance. It is an alternative to the traditional tiered wedding cake.
Reports said that this type of cake became popular in the United States as early as 2024.
