The issue of corruption in flood control projects made headlines after President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ordered a comprehensive audit during his fourth State of the Nation Address, following heavy monsoon rains that flooded Metro Manila streets last month.
He highlighted fraudulent and substandard flood mitigation efforts and demanded a full review of projects completed in the last three years by the Department of Public Works and Highways.
This month, he also ordered the audit to investigate why 20% of flood control projects were awarded to only 15 contractors.
