A civil wedding in San Fernando City, Pampanga drew attention for the mayor’s quips and comments while officiating the ceremony.
On May 26, Instagram user Janus Novio shared a post featuring his friends getting married in a civil rite at the mayor’s office in the city hall, with San Fernando City Mayor Vilma Caluag as the officiant.
Some of the moments amused him and other online users, with the city mayor drawing laughs with her comments.
“Ba’t ‘di mo pa ipasuot? Parang ayaw mo pa ibigay,” Caluag remarked when the groom, Jonathan Regala, was about to place the wedding ring on his bride, Tiara Kaewintanin.
The city mayor also joked about borrowing the ring and pawning it.
“Photographer, videographer, nasa inyong mga kamay ang pagkuha ng magandang pagtutukaan ng dalawang magsing-irog!” Caluag said before the couple shared their first kiss as husband and wife.
“At kayo naman, mag-participate kayo, no! Kailangan maganda ‘yung pagkakuha sa inyo,” she told them.
Caluag also sang Yeng Constantino’s “Ikaw” and encouraged other attendees to sing along.
“Most entertaining wedding I’ve attended,” Novio captioned his post.
“Laughtrip si Mayora HAHAHA,” he added.

A civil wedding or a civil marriage is a non-religious ceremony conducted by a government official authorized to solemnize marriages, usually a judge, mayor, or a designated solemnizing officer.
Like church weddings, it also carries the full legal weight of marriage under Philippine law but is typically quicker, more straightforward and less costly than the latter.
