A dog believed to belong to a foreman working at the collapsed building site in Balibago, Angeles City, Pampanga has been rescued and is now under the care of local authorities, according to Angeles City Information Office.

The animal was recovered from the incident area and brought to the Angeles City Dog Pound and Animal Shelter shortly after the collapse of the under-construction nine-storey building, which left several people dead and others still missing.

“Ayon sa City Veterinary Office (CVO), ang alagang aso ay agad na isinailalim sa pangangalaga upang matiyak ang maayos na kondisyon matapos itong makalabas mula sa gumuhong istruktura,” it said.

The City Veterinary Office said the dog was immediately placed under veterinary care upon rescue.

Veterinary personnel are currently monitoring the animal’s condition and providing its needs.

“Tiniyak ng CVO na ang rescued dog ay bibigyan ng sapat na atensyon kabilang ang angkop na pagkain tulad ng wet food na nararapat dahil sa kaniyang kondisyon, pati na rin ang pagbibigay ng vitamins at tuloy-tuloy na monitoring upang matiyak ang recovery,” Angeles City Information Office wrote.

Photos released by the city government showed the dog resting inside the shelter while receiving care from veterinary staff.

The update comes as authorities continue search, rescue and retrieval operations at the collapse site, where emergency responders remain deployed in an effort to locate missing individuals trapped under the rubble.

On Monday, the rescuers said the dog emerged from the rubble.

“Sa gitna ng search and rescue operations sa gumuhong ginagawang gusali sa Balibago, isang aso ang na-rescue at kasalukuyang nasa pangangalaga ng mga responders,” they asid.

“Ayon sa ulat sa construction site, ang aso ay biglang nakita na papalabas mula sa rubble habang naagsasagawa ng operasyon,” the information office said.

Authorities have yet to release further details regarding the dog’s owner and the circumstances surrounding the building collapse.

As of Monday, May 25,  the death toll from the building collapse in Angeles has risen to four, with 17 still missing.
