An earthquake of magnitude 6 struck the Samar region of the Philippines on Monday, the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) said.
The quake was at a depth of 10 km (6.2 miles), the GFZ said.
The Philippine seismology agency, Phivolcs, reported the epicenter at 11.82°North, 125.62°East – 020 kilometers North 68° East of San Julian, Eastern Samar.
The tremor was felt at the following varying intensities:
- Intensity V – CITY OF TACLOBAN
- Intensity III – Casiguran, and Juban, SORSOGON
- Intensity II – City of Tandag, SURIGAO DEL SUR
Instrumental Intensities:
- Intensity V – Can-Avid, EASTERN SAMAR; Alangalang, and Dulag, LEYTE
- Intensity IV – Abuyog, Carigara, and Palo, LEYTE; Palapag, and San Roque, NORTHERN SAMAR
- Intensity III – Bulusan, and City of Sorsogon, SORSOGON; Naval, BILIRAN; Hernani, EASTERN SAMAR; Albuera, City of Baybay, Hilongos, Isabel, and Villaba, LEYTE; ORMOC CITY; Hinundayan, Malitbog, San Francisco, and Sogod,
SOUTHERN LEYTE - Intensity II – Esperanza, and Monreal, MASBATE; Prieto Diaz, SORSOGON; San Francisco, CEBU; Kawayan, BILIRAN
- Intensity I – City of Tabaco, ALBAY; Aroroy, and Cataingan, MASBATE; Donsol, SORSOGON; City of Passi, ILOILO; City of Carcar, CEBU; CITY OF CEBU; City of Maasin, SOUTHERN LEYTE
Phivolcs said damage and aftershocks were expected from the tremor.
