Commuters traveling on Labor Day will be offered promos by some ride-hailing services and the government.

Labor Day, observed on May 1, is a holiday that honors the contributions of workers and commemorates their struggle for better labor rights.

This year, the occasion falls on a Friday, the last weekday of the workweek.

Several brands are offering promos for Filipinos traveling on that day.

The Metro Rail Transit (MRT) and Light Rail Transit-Line 2 (LRT-2) will offer free rides to workers during rush hours, from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Commuters only need to present their company ID to avail of the free ride.

Meanwhile, GrabCar and Move It will offer discounted rides to passengers who book their ride-hailing services on May 1.

GrabCar passengers will receive 15% off their rides, capped at a P30 discount, with the promo code “PASAHEROES.”

Move It passengers, on the other hand, will get 40% off their first two rides, capped at a P40 discount per ride, with the promo code “55NA.”

The ride-hailing promos are available nationwide.

Delivery platform foodpanda is also doubling tips received by its rider-partners nationwide on Labor Day as part of its ongoing efforts to provide support amid rising fuel costs.

Rolled out nationwide, the initiative encourages customers to show appreciation through tipping, with foodpanda matching each tip to amplify its impact and with 100% of the tips going to riders.

The initiative is part of the “Panda-Malasakit Project,” a purpose-driven campaign that brings together efforts to support riders, customers, and partners amid rising costs.
