A 77-year-old man impressed Filipinos for persevering his studies despite his age and for his desire to contribute to the country’s agriculture sector.

Reports said that Mario Resurreccion, also known as “Lolo Mario,” is among the Grade 12 students set to graduate from Sampaguita National High School in Solana, Cagayan next week.

He is completing the Agri-Fishery Arts strand under the school’s Technical Vocational Livelihood track.

James Banawa, a practice teacher at the school, said he would often see the elderly student studying in the library.

“He would sometimes ask us questions,” Banawa said in an interview.

Lolo Mario hopes to complete his studies and pursue a degree in agricultural engineering.

He believes agriculture is a vital part of the country and can help improve people’s livelihoods.

Meanwhile, Lolo Mario’s story has inspired Filipinos, who expressed admiration for the elderly man’s determination in the comments.

“Congratulations, tay! Laban lang, same here, graduating at the age of 38,” a Facebook user wrote.

“Congrats po, hindi hadlang ang edad sa taong may pangarap,” another commented.

“Congratulations, tay! Age is just a number, at least nagsumikap si tatay, ‘yung iba, sumusuko na,” a different Pinoy wrote.

“Literal na super Lolo. Proud kami sayo, Lolo,” another commented.

“Saludo po ako sayong pangarap,” a different Facebook user said.

Grade 12 students in the country are usually between 17 and 18 years old.

In 2023, 18 adults in Davao Occidental also inspired Filipinos with their determination to complete kindergarten despite their age.
