A newborn baby girl was rescued after being abandoned on the roadside in Cagayan province.
The hapless infant was discovered by a passing grandmother who was walking along a road in Tuguegarao City, Cagayan province, on Wednesday morning, September 24.
The shocked elderly lady was shocked when she noticed the cardboard box with the child bundled up in cloth inside it. She immediately alerted authorities, who arrived to inspect the scene at Carig-Bagay Bypass Road.
Footage shows the foundling moving around in the cardboard box placed on top of a road parapet.
She was taken to Tuguegarao City Peoples General Hospital, where doctors confirmed she was in good health.
May Asuncion, a social worker of the City Social Welfare and Development Office, said: “According to the examination, the baby is in stable condition but she will remain in the hospital for up to five days to ensure she is in good health.”
Authorities believe the baby was less than a day old as she was found with a “clipped” umbilical cord .
Police said they are now trying to trace the girl’s parents.
