A commuter was struck by a motorcycle after alighting from a jeepney in an undisclosed location.
Automotive publication VISOR shared dashcam footage from Jojimar Mendoza Aggabao showing a motorist hitting a woman who had just stepped off the jeepney.
The incident occurred on the evening of February 10 and was captured by a dashcam-equipped vehicle following a jeepney as traffic came to a standstill.
By the three-second mark of the video, a female passenger alighted from the jeepney and began walking in the direction the vehicle was traveling.
A speeding motorcycle approaching from the right side of the dashcam-equipped vehicle suddenly struck the passenger, causing her to fall.
The passenger later stood up and scolded the motorcycle rider.
“Pedestrians are always the most vulnerable road users,” VISOR’s post read.
The post has garnered over 2,000 likes and reactions, nearly 150 shares, and 786 comments from Filipinos, with many expressing disapproval of the motorcycle rider’s actions.
“Expect dapat ng rider kapag traffic, may tendency na may tatawid palagi para maiwasang humarurot,” an online user wrote.
“When kamote thinks to accelerate than to break,” another commented. “Kamote” is a colloquial term used to describe a reckless driver or someone who disregards traffic and driving rules.
“Paano, maski sa gilid, humaharurot,” a different Facebook user said.
“‘Di talaga nag-iingat mga motorcycle riders, no? Parating mabilis ang takbo. Kahit siksikan na ‘yung traffic, walang menor menor,” another Pinoy commented.
Many motorcycle riders, particularly in urban areas, are known to speed at inappropriate times, including in congested traffic.
In defensive driving, all motorists, as licensed drivers, are expected to be aware of their surroundings before making any maneuvers. This includes checking for pedestrians and yielding to them when present.
