The attention of the Land Transportation Office (LTO) was called to a video showing an individual speeding on a road while appearing to record themselves.
On Friday, October 10, automotive publication VISOR posted a video from JR Abellana’s profile, which featured an individual speeding with their hazard lights on.
The camera angle also suggested that the individual was recording the incident.
“Paging LTO,” VISOR said in its caption.
The video appeared to be taken from Abellana’s Instagram account.
It also received backlash from the page’s followers, who shared their reactions.
“Filming on one hand while driving falls under ADDA, sobrang entitled, pati hazard lights naka-on,” a Facebook user said, referring to the Anti-Distracted Driving Act.
“So one-handed driving, left hand holding the camera phone, while speeding,” another commented.
“Selpon while overspeeding,” a different Facebook user said.
Another follower claimed the incident appeared to have happened along Congressional Avenue, heading toward Luzon Avenue.
“Maraming ganyan diyan, hindi lang ‘yan… kahit motor at mga tricycle,” the Facebook user commented.
The Land Transportation and Traffic Code defines reckless driving as operating a motor vehicle without reasonable caution, or at a speed or in a manner that endangers life and property.
It is also illegal for drivers to use gadgets while driving, although they are permitted to make and receive calls if the device has a hands-free function.
This law applies even to vehicles that are momentarily stopped at traffic lights or intersections.
