Generics Awareness Month was celebrated nationwide last September under the theme: “Generics, Kalusugan ng Bawat Pilipino!”
This annual observance highlights the importance of generic medicines in providing affordable, effective and accessible healthcare to Filipinos.
In observance of this, RHEA Generics, in partnership with Mercury Drug and supported by the Department of Health (DOH), held an event at Mercury Drug Q-Plaza in Cainta on September 29 to promote affordable and effective healthcare through generics.
It was held under the theme “Ginhawang Generics, Ramdam ng Bawat Pilipino.
The DOH reaffirmed its long-standing commitment to expanding access to quality medicines through laws such as the Generics Act of 1988 and the Cheaper Medicines Act of 2008, encouraging patients to discuss generic options with their healthcare providers.
Healthcare products provider also stressed its commitment to the advocacy.
“We are helping redefine what generics truly mean — from being seen as ‘second choice’ to becoming the world-class and trusted choice. At RHEA Generics, we believe no Filipino should ever have to choose between health and livelihood; quality healthcare should never be out of reach,” Giezel Jane Sarmiento, marketing head of the Pharmaceutical Business Unit of PHILUSA Corporation, said.
The event also included free clinics offering consultations and screenings to its patients and nearby communities, reinforcing the shared responsibility to make quality treatment accessible to all Filipinos.
To extend the celebration beyond awareness-building, free clinics were offered to serve suki patients of Mercury Drag and nearby communities with consultations and basic health services, including temperature checks, blood pressure monitoring, and screenings for blood sugar and cholesterol levels.
Generics Awareness Month serves as a timely reminder that affordable healthcare is vital for the well-being of every Filipino.
