A protective father intimidates his daughter’s suitor at her debut party.
Jerico Lantin, the father of the debutante, sits in front close to his daughter Karla Lantin on her 18th birthday when Karla’s suitor is about to give a speech in Manila, the Philippines.
Footage shows the suitor, Marcus, reading a letter for the birthday celebrant while Jerico watches and listens closely. He moves even closer when the boy is about to finish the speech.
After the speech, Marcus grabs the hand of the father and proceeds to pay respect by taking the dad’s hand and bringing it to his forehead.
When Marcus sits beside Karla to take a picture, the father signals the boy to move further away from his daughter, causing the crowd to laugh.
“She is my youngest sister, and my dad has known Marcus for quite some time,” Patricia Lantin, who uploaded the hilarious video on TikTok said.
“Marcus visited our home and asked if he could take my sister on a date, as it was his birthday at that time. He even brought flowers. Such a sweet and nice guy!” she added.
According to Patricia, Marcus was not part of the 18 dances, but he was featured in the 18 gifts.
“It was during this moment when he read the message for my sister,” Patricia said.
“My dad, known for his playful nature, decided to step forward, adopting the role of a strict dad to playfully intimidate his daughter’s suitor,” she added.
“To everyone’s surprise, Marcus remained unfazed and even faced my dad while reading his message, concluding with an ‘I love you so much’ at the end,” Patricia shared.
“He then blessed my dad before taking a seat beside my sister for a photo op. It amused everyone that my dad was pretending to be strict at that time,” she also said.
The now-viral moment was uploaded on TikTok on Dec. 10, 2023. It has gained 5.2 million views, 708,900 likes, 1,056 comments and 46,500 saves on TikTok.

Many viewers flooded the comments section, describing the moment as “cute.”
