The Light Rail Transit-1 (LRT-1) management is inviting Filipinos to embark on a meaningful journey through Manila’s history with the “Heritage Transit Tour” this month.

Called the “Grand LRT-1 Transit Tour” or the “LRT-1 ikotMNL Heritage Transit Tour,” the initiative offers an “exciting new route” that links the north and south ends of the train line.

The initiative is in partnership with Renacimiento Manila, a cultural organization dedicated to preserving the city’s historical legacy.

Participants will ride from the Monumento Station to the Aseana Redemptorist Station, before making their way back to Central Station, in the heart of  Manila.

“That’s four cities, four centuries of history, and one unforgettable adventure,” the Renacimiento Manila said in a Facebook post.

“So grab your sneakers and get ready to ride through time and get to know Manila and her oldest light rail transit line!” it added.

The heritage tour will take place on September 15, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Sites to be visited include Calle Escolta, Plaza Goiti, Carriedo Station, Yamaha-Monumento Station, Bonifacio Monument, ASEANA-Redemptorist Station, Baclaran Church and the Central Terminal Station.

Participants will meet at the First United Building on Calle Escolta at 8:45 a.m.

A fee of P700 will be collected from individuals, which includes a souvenir map and a beep card for commuting. Those interested may register through this link.

The heritage tour is limited to 20 participants only.

“Discover the city’s iconic landmarks and hidden gems with the convenience of #LRT1. It’s more than just a commute; it’s a unique opportunity to see the metro in a new light, mga KasamBiyahe!” the LRT-1 management said.

The Heritage Tour is part of Renacimiento Manila’s “Heritage Walks Program,” which started in 2021.

This program supports the organization’s advocacy to promote the cultural treasures and heritage structures throughout Manila, especially in its lesser-known and endangered areas.
