Reports circulating online compare the earnings of contractors linked to Sarah Discaya to the career earnings of basketball superstar LeBron James.
On Thursday, September 4, basketball news page “Full Court” posted that contractors allegedly tied to the defeated Pasig mayoral bet amassed more money in just three years than the Los Angeles Lakers icon has earned throughout his NBA career.
“INSANE: A Filipina contractor made more than LeBron James’ entire NBA career earnings,” it said, sharing figures from reports.
“It’s More Funds in the Philippines,” the page added.
The page linked screenshots of the reports it referenced for the comparison in the comments section.
A news report cited the Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism (PCIJ), saying that contractors linked to flood control projects led by Sarah and husband Curlee Discaya “secured over P31-billion worth of contracts from 2022 to 2025.”
“In total, all companies linked to the Discayas bagged 421 projects totaling P31,035,712,926.70 billion,” the news report said.
The Discayas own construction firms, some of which were listed on President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.‘s list of contractors that secured the highest number of flood control projects.
The couple also flaunted their ownership of nearly 40 luxury and rare imported cars, including a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter and a Porsche Cayenne V6.
Sarah admitted to having ties with nine construction firms that have bagged flood control projects totaling over P30 billion during the first half of the Marcos Jr. administration.
However, she denied involvement in failed or “ghost” projects.
Her statement contradicts Marcos’ observation regarding some Bulacan flood mitigation projects under St. Timothy Construction, one of their firms, where structures were reported to be either made of substandard materials or left abandoned.
Meanwhile, the Full Court page shared a screenshot of an article from Bleacher Report, a sports news site, that ranked “NBA players with the most career earnings of all time.”
Topping the list was LeBron, with reported career earnings of $528,695,302.
“Over the last decade, James has prioritized short-term contracts that have maximized both his salary and flexibility (read: leverage),” Bleacher Report said.
“After collecting $48.7 million in 2024-25, he made history as the first player to surpass a half-billion dollars in NBA earnings,” it added.
If converted, LeBron’s $528,695,302 amounts to approximately P30,191,356,699 or about P30 billion.
Meanwhile, companies linked to the Discayas secured a total of P31,035,712,926.70 or P31.04 billion from 2022 to 2025 after winning 421 government-funded flood control projects. — with reports from Philstar.com/Dominique Flores
