A previous video of a Filipino caught shoplifting in a U.S. discount store has resurfaced in an online community of Pinoys.

On Wednesday, August 20, a Reddit user uploaded footage from the YouTube channel “Body Cam Edition,” which shares unfiltered body camera recordings. The clip showed a Filipino woman inside a Target store.

“Entitled Filipina nurse caught shoplifting in Target, thinks she can get away with it,” the Redditor said in the “r/Philippines” community.

“Kaninong kamag-anak ‘to?” the Reddit user added.

The video was uploaded by the “Body Cam Edition” on YouTube on August 10.

According to the channel, the case of the Filipino shoplifter happened on Jan. 1, 2025, when “officers responded to an active theft involving a woman dressed in medical attire who concealed merchandise in her coat and headed for the exit — where police and loss prevention were waiting.”

In the video, the Filipino initially insisted that she would “pay” for the items she was caught shoplifting, adding that she was a “professional.” She later said she is a “nurse.”

When the police officer confirmed if “Sumaya” was her “middle name,” she replied, “opo” and later added, “yes, sir,” when he failed to understand.

When asked again about her identity, particularly about her middle name, the shoplifter replied, “That’s Filipino.”

She was later handcuffed and escorted to the police car.

Filipino Redditors expressed disappointment over the video.

“Sabi ko na Pinay ‘to eh. Does she really work [in] medical field? Or props lang ‘yung labcoat. Lol,” a Reddit user wrote.

“‘Yan ‘yung kwento ko sa isang evening [or] morning discussion yata last week na downvote ako, hehehe. Sabi ko lang naman, nakakahiya. Eh totoo naman,” another Redditor wrote.

“Classic Pinoy. ‘Pag nahuli, entitled pa din. ‘I will pay for it,’ hahaha,” a different Redditor commented, quoting the Filipino in the video.

Shoplifting is the act of taking items from a store without paying.

It is one of the most common crimes in the United States, with some retail stores keeping goods behind counters or in locked cases to prevent it.
