Sunny side-up orange?
That is what some Filipinos thought upon seeing the sun on the Philippine flag at Rizal Park, which appeared to have a noticeably different shade of yellow.
Lawyer Emil Marañon III shared photos of the national flag displayed at the historic Rizal Park, pointing out that the sun’s shade does not comply with the specifications set by the Flag and Heraldic Code of the Philippines.
“Been looking at it since this morning, but the Philippine flag presently flying at Rizal Park has the wrong shade of yellow, contrary to what the law requires it to be: Pantone 122C. Hope someone should monitor this,” he wrote on Wednesday, July 30.
Marañon explained that he sees the flag “every day,” adding that he “would notice” if there were “subtle changes.”

Others agreed with his post, with some saying they had also seen the flag in person.
“Tama po pala observation ko. Akala ko mata ko po ang may problema,” an online user commented.
“It’s orange. Why is it orange,” another Pinoy said.
“It seems orangy,” another wrote.
“It looks like orange instead of yellow gold,” a different online user commented.
“Sabi na eh, akala ko sa material lang na ginamit, like, baka seda or satin lang, pero iba nga talaga ang shade,” another Pinoy noticed.
“That is sunny side-up orange,” another online user exclaimed, referring to the shade of a fried egg cooked on one side.
“Sabi na eh, parang may mali nung dumaan ako kaninang umaga. Parang almusal itsura ng araw eh,” a different Pinoy said, referring to the same food typically associated with breakfast meals.
Republic Act 8491, also known as the Flag and Heraldic Code of the Philippines, states that the national flag must have the following color codes:
Blue — Cable No. 80173
White — Cable No. 80001
Red — Cable No. 80108
Golden Yellow — Cable No. 80068
The Pantone color code equivalent for golden yellow is said to be 122C, a pure yellow shade that does not appear orange.
The national flag features a golden yellow sun with eight rays at its center.
The eight rays symbolize the eight provinces that declared themselves in a state of war as soon as the first revolt against the Spaniards was initiated. These were Manila, Cavite, Bulacan, Pampanga, Nueva Ecija, Bataan, Laguna and Batangas.
