A woman reported to be 92 years old expressed dismay after learning that her name was not on the list of beneficiaries for the government’s rice assistance program.

Patria Castillo, identified as a 92-year-old resident of Barangay Sto. Niño in Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro, said she was told her name was on the barangay’s list.

However, she said she was not being accommodated and had been waiting for days.

“Huwag naman akong lokohin at matanda na ako,” Castillo lamented.

She added that she waited for almost three hours at the distribution site, only to learn that her name was not on the list of beneficiaries who would receive 10 kilograms of rice under the Local Government Support Fund (LGSF).

A video of her interview was also uploaded to a Reddit community, where her situation drew concern online.

“Why subject senior citizens to this kind of situation? The [government] must find ways to ease this burden???” a different Pinoy wrote.

The LGSF is an initiative administered by the Department of Budget and Management that provides financial assistance to local government units (LGU) for priority infrastructure projects, agricultural programs and basic service delivery.

The program aims to strengthen LGU’s capacity to address pressing developmental challenges within its respective jurisdiction.
