Sen. Ping Lacson amused Filipinos after joking about his colleague Sen. Rodante Marcoleta, who had been using a wheelchair, suddenly being able to walk.

Lacson on Thursday, July 16, made a joke about Marcoleta’s condition after the latter initially appeared in a wheelchair at Sandiganbayan, where he attended a hearing on a plunder case against him on Wednesday, July 15.

Marcoleta later exited the premises on foot.

“It’s a MIRACLE! Naka-wheel chair pumasok, brisk walk lumabas,” Lacson wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

“Kudos to UP-PGH for putting professionalism and integrity above all other considerations in submitting their medical report to the Sandiganbayan,” he added, referring to the UP Philippine General Hospital.

The clip also appeared in a Reddit community, garnering 2,300 upvotes and more than 100 comments from users who found Lacson’s quip amusing.

“Sen. Ping talaga malakas mag-troll kay Marcoleta, kaya sarap magbasa ng mga tweet niya,” a Redditor said with a laughing emoji.

“HAHAHAHHAHAHAHA, lakas mang-trip eh,” another Reddit user commented.

“Lacson is a having a field day, hahahaha. A few months ago, may feud itong dalawa. Super yabang as bagong salang na senador, tapos ganito na nangyari. ‘Di pala siya safe, hahaha,” a different Redditor commented.

“Nobody’s more entertained by Marcoleta’s predicament than Ping,” another Reddit user said.

“Ang galing ng PGH! Kaya lang, hindi ako na-consult, sayang,” forensic pathologist Raquel Fortun quipped, referring to the hospital that conducted a medical examination on Marcoleta.

Marcoleta ended his nine-day hospital arrest after the PGH conducted a medical examination that found “there is no finding or medical condition to require further hospitalization.”

The examination came after the Sandiganbayan ordered the Philippine National Police to bring the senator to the PGH for a health check.

Two days after his arrest, Marcoleta was diagnosed by the PNP General Hospital with mild pneumonia and degenerative disc disease. Before that, the senator had complained of chest pains and hypertension.

The Sandiganbayan has ordered Marcoleta’s transfer to the Quezon City Jail.

The Department of Interior and Local Government gave assurance that the senator would not receive special treatment.

He is detained over a plunder case related to his alleged failure to declare a P75 million donation he received for his 2025 elections campaign.
