The Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) on Monday emphasized the importance of holding elections at “regular and fixed intervals,” following the recent postponement of the December 2025 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE).

In a radio interview, PPCRV Chairperson Evelyn Singson stressed that the integrity of the democratic process relies on the consistent scheduling of elections.

“The sanctity of our democratic process rests on the certainty of regular elections,” Singson told Church-run Radio Veritas.

“Our citizens must be assured that elected officials will serve only within their rightful mandate, and that their performance will be judged through the ballot, at regular and fixed intervals,” she said.

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. recently signed Republic Act No. 12232, which adjusts the term of office for barangay and SK officials and moves the BSKE to the first Monday of November 2026.

Following the signing, election lawyer Romulo Macalintal filed a petition before the Supreme Court, asking it to declare the law unconstitutional.

While acknowledging the concerns, Singson said the PPCRV is not entirely opposed to the postponement.

She said the Commission on Elections (Comelec) must prioritize preparations for the country’s first-ever Bangsamoro Parliamentary Elections (BPE), set for Oct. 13.

“I believe the deferment was made in recognition of the paramount importance of the BARMM elections,” the PPCRV official said.

“The Commission on Elections is devoting its full attention to ensuring that the BARMM elections are credible, orderly, and successful, given the serious consequences to national stability should they falter,” she added.

Singson admitted that while postponing the BSKE is “far from ideal,” extraordinary circumstances may require such adjustments in the interest of the greater good.

Marcos earlier said the move to delay the BSKE would help Comelec fully focus on the upcoming BPE.
